MESSAGE FROM LAF PRESIDENT AND CEO, DOUG ULMAN

dougLIVESTRONG is grateful to SwingFore!Yellow for supporting our work on behalf of cancer survivors everywhere. This partnership demonstrates the power of sport in furthering social change and we welcome the golf community to the LIVESTRONG movement.

In 2009, The Lance Armstrong Foundation was able to:

  • Hold the first LIVESTRONG Global Summit in Dublin bringing together delegates from the US and 65 countries to discuss cancer policy, treatment, care, and economic impact.
  • Receive over 300 commitments from governments, non-profits, NGOs, and advocates around the world to take specific actions in the fight against cancer.
  • Increase LIVESTRONG at School, our innovative program to help teachers explain cancer to children, to over 1,000 schools nationwide.
  • Advance the Young Adult Alliance, our ground-breaking program that brings community programs, research, advocacy, and awareness to address the lack of improvement in survival rates of young adults diagnosed with cancer. As part of these efforts, LIVESTRONG acquired Planet Cancer to integrate its award-winning efforts into our long-standing commitments to young adult cancer programs and continue to provide its direct services to this important constituency.
  • Bring together organizations in Mexico, Italy, South Africa, Australia, and other nations with forums that bring local groups together to begin collaboration on the ground.
  • Launch the LIVESTRONG Action network and added over 80,000 new advocates to our team.
  • Further build our partnership with the YMCA for safe exercise recovery programs for survivors.
  • Serve survivors, caregivers, and families with financial counseling, clinical trials matching, health insurance issues, and emotional support through LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare. To expand our reach and service to individuals and families diagnosed with cancer, LIVESTRONG also acquired and integrated Fertile Hope, an outstanding organization that provides information on fertility options for men and women undergoing cancer treatments.
  • Raise over $41,000,000 to advance the fight against cancer – with over 80% of every dollar going directly to programs such as LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare, LIVESTRONG at School, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, the Young Adult Alliance, and direct to community programs.
  • And, most importantly, continue to provide support, hope, and inspiration to cancer survivors and their families.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation has provided financial resources to more than 550 organizations that conduct cancer survivorship research or offer services to people affected by cancer, and 80 cents of every dollar donated to the LAF has supported our cancer survivorship programs and initiatives.
